“One of my employees called another employee ‘f***ot,’” the client told me. (Yes, this is a real phone call I received recently.)
The slur is horrifying and problematic on a number of levels, and is also illegal because gay and transgender people are now an officially protected class in the workplace. In June, the Supreme Court updated its ruling on Title VII to add that “sex” includes sexual orientation and gender identification. This was long overdue and a big win in the fight for equal rights for LGBTQIA people.
